Julie Nolan - Associate Director
Julie has worked with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and the Academy since 2018. She serves as Director of Community Engagement and Associate Director of the Academy, and as Institutional Grant Manager. In these roles, she plays a central part in advancing access to classical music and music education throughout the region. Julie is deeply committed to eliminating barriers to participation by developing and sustaining strong community partnerships that reach diverse neighborhoods, ensuring the ASO’s impact is inclusive and far-reaching.
Julie’s passion for excellence and her dedication to supporting students, faculty, and families have been instrumental in the Academy’s continued success. She builds relationships that allow the ASO and the Academy to share their music across the community. In addition to her programmatic work, Julie serves as the grant writer and manager, helping secure critical funding to sustain and expand the ASO and ASA missions.
Prior to her career in the arts, Julie served as an intelligence staff officer with assignments at the Pentagon, U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Atlantic Command, and NATO. She managed the Pacific Intelligence Training Center, supporting tens of thousands of service members through in-person and deployable training programs, and served as a senior advisor to leadership. She deployed with the 10th Mountain Division and supported numerous joint military operations.
Julie’s family has deep ties to the local community. She and her husband, Sean, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, raised their three children in Anne Arundel County. Julie is proud to be part of the ASO and to support its meaningful impact in the community.
